Why this story endures

Did a West African people know details about Sirius B before modern astronomy reached them?

At its strongest, the theory argues that the familiar account leaves a meaningful remainder: testimony, timing, documents, physical details, or institutional behavior that cannot be comfortably absorbed by the standard explanation. That remainder is the proper object of investigation—not proof by itself, but the reason the file stays open in public memory.

What can be anchored

The distinction matters. A declassified program proves that an institution pursued a line of work; it does not automatically validate every later claim attached to it. Likewise, a failed explanation does not automatically establish the most extraordinary alternative.

Later fieldwork questioned whether the knowledge was widespread or ancient, and contact with modern sources is a plausible route.
